Uncontrollable Laughter: Blog 2

Uncontrollable Laughter: Blog 2

There are definitely a few things I have noticed in terms of witnessing someone have an uncontrollable outburst of laughter, but it has been especially present since being in college for the past 4 years. Now, everyone who comes to TCU has had to go to orientation and a few more of those ‘welcome’ meetings during freshman year of college. The dreaded ice breaker questions always seem to make their way into conversations, which I guess leads to some even better memories sometimes. It was I believe August of my freshman year and we were separated into groups of maybe 10 people or so for Frogs First. The first thing we did was – you guessed it –  a few Ice breaker games about our names and majors and where we were from. But oddly enough, that’s not where I laughed so hard that I cried, it was after that. A couple of us were walking from the far side of campus with all the academic buildings to the other side where the BLUU was. One friend suddenly tripped on one of the cords that the plant golf carts had laid out near the sidewalk by the library and ripped the seam of his jeans where you could see his underwear. For a moment after, everyone was silent and didn’t want to tell him what had happened to his pants because he got up and acted like everything was okay. So, we all start walking again until another guy in our small group has a fit of uncontrollable laughter while walking behind the guy with the ripped jeans. He laughed and laughed and laughed until he was on the ground in the grass with tears coming from his eyes. As the saying goes- laughter is contagious- I really do believe that that statement could not be any truer in this instance. All of us start laughing so hard that we are nearly on the ground in tears. Even the guy with the ripped jeans was laughing and he still had no idea it was him that everyone was laughing at. Moments later, we all got up and told the guy that he had ripped his jeans and that was why everyone started laughing hysterically, not because of the other guy simply having a fit of laughter. He ended up stealing a sign in the grass and covering his ripped pants so that no one else could see what had happened. As a senior, when I walk by that spot on campus still today, I can’t help but think of that fond memory. I guess that’s what laughter does – I’m not sure I’ll ever forget that moment. To this day, my small group has group messages together with everyone who had witnessed it happen and we definitely can’t help but bring it up sometimes.  I also think that we are most definitely all great, possibly even better friends, since that fit of laughter happened. It’s moments like these that I like because it was such a small thing – not even really that funny if you didn’t witness it. Yet, because it was so unexpected, it’s one of those memories that you will never forget. I am a big believer that laughter can cure anything that is going on in your life and it’s a great way to make new friends and have a memory that will last for years and years.
