My Dad, Tiger King, & MRI scans....Uncontrollable Laughter

Two words: Tiger King. Scratch that, add two more words: My dad.

Now, let’s just say my dad is not known for his love of television. In fact, he hates movies and most television shows…to give you some context, his idea of fun is connecting his laptop to our living room TV screen and pulling up x-rays and MRI scans and forcing the entire family to try and diagnose the patient.... Mind you, my dad is a radiologist for a living so of course he already knows what’s wrong with the patient. So, much to his amusement, he sits there with wine in one hand and teaches my brother and I how to read MRI’s and makes us battle each other to see who can correctly diagnose the patient first. He still can’t figure out why neither me or my brother chose the medical field as a career path. Imagine that?!

Anyway back to Tiger King. This has become my dad’s new favorite show – of all time. I’m still unsure of how he found it, but regardless of how he did, I’ve never heard my dad laugh so hard in my life. He watched the entire series in one sitting the first day it aired on Netflix. He hasn’t stopped talking about it…. it’s driving me mad. He forced me to sit and watch the first episode with him (his third time watching it) and never will I ever watch Tiger King again. Not my show. But boy oh boy did I have a good laugh – not at the show, but at my dad. He had tears streaming down his face and my entire family just sat and laughed at him the entire episode.

I guess the one good thing coming from Tiger King is that I’ve never seen my dad so happy to watch a television show in my life. It was a great moment to see him that lively. I’ll remember Tiger King for probably the rest of my life and trust me, there will be no shortage of good laughs from both my dad and me.
Now excuse me while I go check my text messages – this is the 20th Tiger King Meme I’ve received from dad today. Send help.

  1. In terms of Tiger King and TV shows, our dads are quite similar. My dad is always telling me about new shows and movies he is watching on Netflix, and I have no idea how he finds them. My dad's favorite show right now is definitely Tiger King, and he made me watch four straight episodes with him the other night. I didn't mind because we were having such a great time, but it's funny how similarly our dads have reacted to the Tiger King.

  2. Being from Oklahoma, seeing everyone's reaction to Tiger King has been really interesting and strange. I remember driving down I-35 as a kid and seeing a giant billboard with his face on it beside a tiger, of course). Joe has always been a hit with the dad crowd for some reason...

  3. My dad is also a huge advocate for the show "Tiger King." It really is unbelievable how popular this documentary became in such a short period of time. I have to admit that I was a huge fan of the show as well. Something about the ridiculous nature of the whole documentary had my attention from minute 1 to the final episode. I can only dream of the day that I receive Tiger King memes from my dad. Hopefully one day he will figure out how to do that.

  4. The funniest thing is, I am actually watching Tiger King while writing this comment. It is just such a captivating show. I can't look away! I am going to have to side with your dad on this one. It is so outrageous, and I still cannot believe that it is real.

  5. HAAHAHA CATHERINE- I had such a good laugh while reading this! You know me- I'm the biggest television and movie queen there ever was. With that being said, I did binge Tiger King on Netflix, and I'm not ashamed to say that everything about the show is comedic. Joe Exotic shouldn't be real. There I said it! He's too extravagant and over-the-top to be real! Haha, but seriously this post made my day!
