Learning Experiences: Closet Poet?

Learning Experiences: Blog 5   As a senior, taking the chance to reflect on some of the classes that taught me more than I could imagine has been a great experience for me. One class I often think about is Poetry Writing Workshop 1, which I took last spring semester with Professor Alex Lemon. I had major doubts about my ability to write poetry. I knew I liked to read poetry, but I didn’t think I knew how exactly to write poetry.  At the beginning of the semester, I was a little lost. I didn’t know if there was a specific format that I was supposed to follow, or if I even had good ideas. Yet as the semester continued, I found myself feeling lucky to have finally been able to allow myself to take a course like poetry. TCU has shown me so many different sides to not only myself, but to what there is out in the world. Learning from other students in the class was so exciting and I found many people who I look up to in there.  During that semester, I found that there ar...

Learning Experiences Blog 4: Growing-Up

Learning Experiences: Blog 4 I have been lucky enough to grow up with dual citizenship in Italy from my dad’s side of the family and I have had countless opportunities to meet some incredible people through this citizenship. When I was younger, I had no idea what dual citizenship meant, or what crazy experiences I have gotten to be part of because of it. In my junior year of high school my family hosted an Italian boy from a small town in Italy called Manta. He stayed with us for 10 months and during those months I learned so much about Italian culture, ways of life and even learned some of the language. I thought that everyone had an experience like that, and I definitely took for granted a lot of my travels and learning experiences when I was younger.  Today, I realize how lucky I am to have dual citizenship. Most people from my hometown don’t get to experience the world like I have been able to. Sometimes I wish I had grown-up sooner. My dual citizenship has taught me t...

Learning Experience: Blog 3

Learning Experience: Blog 3 Through my major, Strategic Communication, I’ve learned a ton over the years about making connections. Myself being a go-getter and always looking for the next thing that I can be involved in no matter how much I already have going on; I really took that advice to heart. Now, as a senior, I’ve been blessed with some incredible internship opportunities over my 4 years here at TCU, all while learning from many mistakes I’ve experienced too. Some of my job experiences have not been so good as others and I think it goes hand in hand with how being a go-getter can sometimes backfire. Yet, I treat it as one of those life experiences where you simply can’t know it until you experience it yourself. One of my first intern experiences was at a local advertising agency and granted I really didn ’t know what to expect. I remember getting that first email that told me I was invited to have a phone interview with the head of the internship department on the followin...

Uncontrollable Laughter: Blog 2

Uncontrollable Laughter: Blog 2   There are definitely a few things I have noticed in terms of witnessing someone have an uncontrollable outburst of laughter, but it has been especially present since being in college for the past 4 years. Now, everyone who comes to TCU has had to go to orientation and a few more of those ‘welcome’ meetings during freshman year of college. The dreaded ice breaker questions always seem to make their way into conversations, which I guess leads to some even better memories sometimes. It was I believe August of my freshman year and we were separated into groups of maybe 10 people or so for Frogs First. The first thing we did was – you guessed it –  a few Ice breaker games about our names and majors and where we were from. But oddly enough, that’s not where I laughed so hard that I cried, it was after that. A couple of us were walking from the far side of campus with all the academic buildings to the other side where the BLUU was. One friend su...

Uncontrollable Laughter: Blog 1

Uncontrollable laughter: Blog 1 One instance where I experienced uncontrollable laughter was this past summer when I worked for American Airlines in Global Marketing. I had the opportunity to travel for free all summer which made for some interesting airport stories. One weekend I was taking a trip to Bermuda and was waiting to board my plane in Miami, Florida.  What should seem like a normal experience actually turned into a highly unexpected one. One of the passengers waiting to board the flight seemed to have an extreme fear of flying, so as we were all waiting by the gate, the lady started to have sudden deep breathing problems and began to look around frantically at all of the others passengers because I believe she felt claustrophobic. Her husband seemed to know that it was a possibility she would start feeling this way, so he began to slowly make his way to the bathroom. Well, funny enough, he made it back just in time to see what had happened moments before. As the boa...
